In Santa Cruz, we believe our beaches are our most precious resource, and we need to make every effort to keep them in beautiful shape. There are several non-profits, public agencies, and individual volunteers who have been working over the years to help keep our beaches clean, however, there was not a coordinated effort to most effectively and efficiently conduct beach cleanups. That is, until the idea for a coalition developed after last year's Annual Coastal Cleanup day (ACC). ACC is the one day of the year that we get thousands of people to come out and clean up our beaches and watersheds. However, the vision for a Coalition would be a way to coordinate volunteers and efforts from 4 different non-profits to provide year-round stewardship with monthly beach clean ups at the locations that need it the most.
And so in 2007 on ACC, we unveil to you to Clean Beaches Coalition - a coordinated effort among Surfrider Foundation, Ecology Action, Pack Your Trash, Save Our Shores, City of Santa Cruz, California State Parks, and the County of Santa Cruz to work with volunteers in the community to keep our beaches beautiful through year-round stewardship!
